Home to the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences, this building, opened in 2013, is one of UT Austin’s newest. It was named for Bill Gates and Michael Dell, whose generosity helped fund its construction. With modern architecture and design, the building has interactive spaces and “research clusters” that encourage discussion and collaboration. It also contains dedicated study areas and an artificial intelligence program that is ranked in the top 10 in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
Continue in the same direction (south, with the canoe sculpture behind you) on Speedway, following the length of the Welch Building on your right. Take the staircase after Welch up in the direction toward the UT Tower. To the right of a sculpture of metal spheres is the W.C. Hogg building.
