Painter Hall includes several Freshman Research Initiative labs, as well as many CNS student offices. The building is where you’ll find the Health Professions Office, Career Services, UTeach, the Texas Institute for Discovery Education in Science, the Honors Center and CNS’s Undergraduate Recruitment and Visitors Center. Painter has a roof telescope, built in the 1930’s, that is open to the public for stargazing. In fact, New Student Orientation offers stargazing parties here. The telescope contains copper that has oxidized, turning it green much like the Statue of Liberty.
Follow the sidewalk down 24th Street, with University Avenue at your back. The long building on your left is the Norman Hackerman Building. At the corner of Speedway and 24th is the canoe sculpture at the front of the building.
